Player characters will be created from one hundred points using a closed bidding system instead of the normal open bidding. Two non player characters will also enter the bidding to try and keep bidding honest. Bidding on Strength and Endurance will attract a discount of 1/3 of the bid rounded down. So if a player bids twenty-one points for strength they will only pay fourteen points of their total of one hundred. Partial Powers may be bought, but characters should have no more than two uncompleted powers. Characters should start with no more than seven points of stuff (good or bad). Up to ten additional points will be available for a good character background as per the rules. All characters should have basic Pattern Imprint and should be Amberites.

Each character should indicate which of the positions within Amber they would like their character to be at game start.

1) Minister for Trade - responsible for ensuring trade pacts are made and kept with neighbouring Shadows. The position reports to Flora.

2) Minister of External Security - responsible for intelligence gathering in neighbouring states. The position reports to Caine.

3) Minister for Foreign Affairs - responsible for the diplomats in the Circle States. The position reports to Bleys.

4) Minister for Arcane Investigations - responsible for the investigation of starnge magical phenomena. The position reports to Fiona.

5) Minister for Naval Affairs - responsible for the movement and command of Amber's navies in the Circle Sea. The position reports to Gerrard.

6) Minister for Military Intelligence - responsible for the assessment of foreign armies and threats to Amber. The position reports to Benedict.

7) Ambassidor for Begma - responsible for Amber's relationships with the Shadow of Begma. The position reports direct to King Random.

8) Ambassidor for Eregnor - responsible for Amber's relationships with the Shadow of Eregnor. The position reports direct to King Random.

Artefacts may be pointed up with the GM before the bidding, or a description put in with the bid and they will be pointed up afterwards. If they do not have sufficient points the GM will either allow a degree of bad stuff for the artefact or suggest that the artefact not be gained until sufficient points are earned.

A character may (if they know) declare their parentage, although they are at liberty not to do so. They may be wrong on this anyway. A character startup sheet can be downloaded here amber-startup.
